Meet The Pastor

Biographical Sketch of Dr. Michael T. Scott, Sr.

Dr. Michael T. Scott, Sr., a native of Dover, Delaware is Senior Pastor of the Galilee Baptist Church of Kalamazoo, Michigan and Founder of Michael T. Scott Ministries, Inc. Dr. Scott has been preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ for twenty-six years and pastoring God’s people for 18 years consecutively. Dr. Scott is a dual graduate of Virginia Union University, Richmond, Virginia where he received the Bachelor of Arts in Religion & Philosophy and the Master of Divinity in 1998 and 2001, respectively. Dr. Scott holds an earned doctorate in leadership and preaching from the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Scott also has an Associate of Applied Science degree in Mortuary Science from the John Tyler Community College in Chester, Virginia and is a Licensed Mortician in the states of Michigan, Indiana, and Virginia.

Dr. Scott accepted the call of God upon his life as a young man. He served as Senior Pastor of the historic Jerusalem Baptist Church of Virginia’s Eastern Shore from 1999-2011. Dr. Scott and his wife planted a church in 2005, The Upper Room Church in Milford, Delaware, of which he continues to provide spiritual oversight. He was Minister to the Youth at the Grayland Baptist Church of Richmond, VA from 1995-1999. He served as Organist at the Fountain Baptist Church of Richmond, VA from 1994-1995. Dr. Scott has also authored four books.

Dr. Scott has served on the Board of Directors for the YMCA of Greater Kalamazoo, The Gryphon Place, Communities in Schools of Kalamazoo, and the Board of Christian Education and Publication for the Progressive National Baptist Convention. He is the Immediate Past President of the Northside Ministerial Alliance of Kalamazoo. He is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. (Kappa Psi Lambda Chapter) and the Kalamazoo Metropolitan Branch of the NAACP.

Dr. Scott plays an active leadership role in several denominations: He is National Chairman of the Program Committee for the Progressive National Baptist Convention. He is Vice-President-at-Large of the Chain Lake District Baptist Association Congress of Christian Education. He also holds affiliations with the American Baptist Churches of USA, American Baptist Churches of Michigan, Michigan Progressive Baptist Convention, and Global United Fellowship.

Dr. Scott and his wife, Dr. Tamara T. Scott, reside in Kalamazoo, Michigan with their three children: Trinity, Morgan, and Michael II, affectionately known as “Brother”. Dr. Scott enjoys reading, writing, travel, technology, and spending time with family and friends. Dr. Scott’s ministry gifts include that of: Pastor, Teacher, and Evangelist. His motto scripture is found in Phil. 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.”
